✨ Menopause Hormone Therapy 101: Understanding the Medicines Behind Menopause Care

Midlife is not a crisis. It is a time when you choose yourself with more courage than ever before including your treatment. In this session Dr. Tinei Nzenza, an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 26 years of clinical practice and a special interest in peri‑ and postmenopausal care provided Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT) 101 guidance for women to understand the medicines behind menopause care.

Dr Nzenza talked about how MHT replaces the oestrogen your body is losing, easing symptoms and protecting long‑term health. Starting within the right window, before 60 or within 10 years of your last period, offers the greatest benefit. And across Africa, breaking the silence means women can finally ask for safer options, clearer information, and care that honours their voice and their choices.

✨ Why Your Doctor Won’t Always Reach for the Prescription Pad

As part of the LynFlowers series on menopause & weight management, Dr Nicoletta Mabhena and Bariatric Physician Dr Vimbayinaishe Kandeke unpack the science, the myths, and the emotional realities of navigating weight loss treatments in perimenopause and menopause.

This session explored why midlife weight management requires more than a quick prescription. It began with the role of friendship and community in protecting women from loneliness during perimenopause and menopause, and why intentional connection becomes essential as life roles shift.

Dr. Vimbayi unpacked what a proper weight‑management consultation should look like — a full assessment of your medical history, sleep, stress, menstrual health, emotional wellbeing, and eating patterns. We discussed why midlife weight gain is biological, why medication is not always the first step, and how African women can navigate weight, culture, and health with realistic, sustainable strategies.

Three guiding principles for weight management: Grace. Sustainability. Focus on yourself.

🌺 Separating Hype from Health: Unpacking Weight‑Loss Treatments

This session is part of the LynFlowers series on menopause & weight management a doctor‑led, culturally grounded discussion on what really works for midlife weight management — and what doesn’t.

Dr Nicoletta Mabhena and Bariatric Physician Dr Vimbayinaishe Kandeke unpack the science, the myths, and the emotional realities of navigating weight loss treatments in perimenopause and menopause.

The session clarified that women are using herbs & supplements, and that’s the reality — there’s no issue as long as they don’t interfere with your other medications. Discernment is important when choosing remedies and treatments; red flags that women should be aware of were highlighted.

“We are not the first generation of women to be targeted by hype and unscrupulous marketing….women have been trying to manage their weight for over a century. But what we have as an advantage today in 2026 is information is available in all forms. There's no secrecy.”

At LynFlowers we promote self‑discovery as it is anchored on evidence not shame or hype.

“It's not selfishness. It's actually a movement. Self-discovery is the essence of midlife. You are choosing yourself. And most probably it's for the first time in decades that you are choosing yourself.

🌺 Menopause & Weight Management: What Every Woman Should Know

In our LynFlowers webinar, Dr. Nicky Mabhena our Founder and bariatric physician Dr. Vimbayinaishe Kandeke from MyTano unpacked one of the biggest challenges women face in midlife: why weight changes during perimenopause and menopause — and why it’s not your fault.

Hormonal shifts create a metabolic switch that affects fat distribution, appetite, cravings, sleep, and mood. As Dr. Vimbayi explained,

“Menopausal weight gain is a biological and physiological concern, not a behavioural one.”

The session also clarified the growing conversation around GLP‑1 medications. These treatments can be powerful tools for metabolic health, especially as the semaglutide patent drops and access expands — but they are not one‑size‑fits‑all. Safe use requires full clinical assessment, personalised dosing, and long‑term support.

At LynFlowers, we guide women through midlife with evidence‑based education, emotional support, and holistic tools that honour the whole woman — body, mind, identity, and relationships.

“Midlife is not a crisis — it is a calling. A season to return to yourself with wisdom, softness, and power.”
